The new Signature Type Cover will be offered in three colors, with Platinum, Burgundy, and Cobalt Blue options.
The first Signature Type Cover was added to the Surface lineup shortly after the Surface Pro 4 was released, and it added a touch of luxury with an Alcantara fabric covering the keyboard. Regardless, the latest Type Cover to be offered alongside the Surface Pro is a new version of the Signature model. Last two points: the pen slot works as intended, and remember that when the keyboard is flipped to use the surface in tablet mode the keyboard and its fragile materials are completely exposed.It’s kind of funny that the current cover is still called the Type Cover, since the Touch Cover hasn’t been offered for several years now. I have to detach the keyboard to get comfy in writing. The other downside is that when you flip the entire thing over the tablet to use the surface as a tablet, the connector on the bottom side of the tablet will interfere with your wrist and thus with the writing process, making it *really* annoying. Touching the app bar will inevitably touch the keyboard. When you’re using it in “lifted” mode, the keyboard sits exactly on the tablet bottom bezel. There are two things that were just annoying about this keyboard: The touchpad is a classic mechanical one, and it’s just as good as it can be. If you prefer to use the keyboard in the “flattened” mode, the keyboard is all wobbly and totally unsatisfying to write on. The typing experience is actually surprisingly good, if you’re going to use the keyboard in the “lifted” mode. The keycaps do have a layer of rubber on them, and you know how things go with rubber. The palm rests are made out of alcantara, which I personally don’t like (but others do), and I know that time is unforgiving to this material. The underside is made out of some kind of cloth, which protects the entire tablet when closed but if it gets dirty, it’s hard to clean.
